How to Prepare for Your Tattoo Appointment
Getting a new tattoo can very stressful to our bodies, but we don’t often take the full precautions we should when getting our new tattoos.
Here are some useful tips I’ve figured out along the way of tattooing and getting tattooed.
Night Before Your Appointment
1. Confirm Appointment Details
Double-check the date, time, and location of your tattoo appointment.
Make sure you have your artist’s contact information stored in your phone in case of any last-minute changes or emergencies.

2. Hydration and Rest
Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated, which can improve the tattooing process.
Get a good night's sleep to help your body and mind stay relaxed.
3. Choose Appropriate Clothing
Pick loose and comfortable clothing that provides easy access to the area you're getting tattooed.
Wear something that you won't mind getting ink or ointment on.
Morning of Your Tattoo Appointment
1. Shower and Cleanse
Take a thorough shower before your appointment to ensure your skin is clean.
Avoid applying lotions, oils, or any substances to the area you're getting tattooed.
DO NOT apply numbing creams before arrival.**
2. Eat a Balanced Breakfast
Consume a healthy meal to maintain your energy levels during the tattoo session.
Avoid heavy or greasy foods that might make you uncomfortable during the process.
3. Hydration
Drink water to keep your body hydrated.
4. Embrace Calmness
Practice deep breathing or meditation to help ease any nervousness or anxiety.
WHAT TO BRING
Essential Items
Prepare your ID, and payment for the appointment.
Bring headphones, a book, or other entertainment to pass the time during the session.
A jacket or sweater. Regardless of the weather outside, the studio typically is cold.
Bring a Snack
Grab a snack for the morning of your appointment, as the process can be time-consuming.
Personal Cup
Hydration is extremely important before and especially during your session. I recommend bringing a reusable water bottle or a Gatorade type beverage.
Small water bottles are also provided in the studio.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
If you’ve booked more than 3 hours of work, a mid-session break is scheduled to allow you time to stretch, grab lunch, and replenish your body.
